On June 15, 2013, YouTopia hosted a 5K at the Central Park of Morris County. The money we raised went towards Divine Onkar Mission to use for eye hospitals, schools, freshwater wells, and lodging areas for underprivileged children in India. There are around 1,500 children, some of whom have lost their parents or suffer from poverty, who have been provided with education, shelter, and a better life. The school provides a place to grow up for the kids so that they can grow into adulthood and not just survive but lead meaningful lives.
We had a lot of volunteers who helped make the event a resounding success. Whether at the registration desk, or the food stall or games or face painting – you were sure to be met by a smiling volunteer. There were people who were experienced volunteers, and people who were volunteering for the first time – all bound by a common feeling of helping this effort of giving back.
We managed to raise over $10,000 for the event. Thanks to all our generous donors as well as our community sponsors. Your donations and proceeds from the 5K will greatly benefit the Divine Onkar Mission and the generous work they do for the community.
